Ammon, Idaho is a small city located in the eastern region of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Snake River and is part of Bonneville County. With a population of approximately 16,000 people, Ammon may seem like your typical small town; but it has a rich history and unique features that make it stand out. The area now known as Ammon was originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Bannock and Shoshone. In 1863, Mormon pioneers established a settlement in this area called Eagle Rock. The name was later changed to Idaho Falls in 1891 when it became an important stop for travelers heading west on the Oregon Trail. However, Ammon's story begins in 1905 when Thomas Eddings decided to purchase some land near Idaho Falls to farm with his sons George and John. This land would eventually become known as "Eddingsville," which later became Ammon after being incorporated as its own city in 1908. One of the main reasons behind Ammon's growth was its close proximity to water sources such as canals from nearby rivers and springs that run throughout the city. These water sources allowed for successful farming endeavors which attracted more settlers to move into the area. During World War II, Ammon experienced significant development due to its location near an army airfield (now known as Fanning Field). The influx of military personnel led to increased business opportunities for locals, leading to further expansion and growth for Ammon. Today, agriculture still plays an important role in shaping local economy alongside other industries like manufacturing and retail trade. Many residents work outside of agriculture at places like INL (Idaho National Laboratory), Melaleuca Inc., Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center or BYU-I (Brigham Young University-Idaho). But what makes Ammon truly unique are its innovative approaches towards technology and community development. In the 1990s, Ammon became one of the first cities in Idaho to install a fiber optic network. This network provides high-speed internet access to every home and business within city limits at affordable rates. This forward-thinking approach has earned Ammon recognition as a “Smart21 Community” by the Intelligent Community Forum and has attracted attention from other cities looking to replicate their success. The fiber optic infrastructure also allows for cost-saving measures such as remote meter reading for utilities, reducing overhead costs for both residents and local government. In addition to its technological advancements, Ammon is also known for its strong sense of community. The city hosts various events throughout the year like summer concerts in the park, farmer's markets, and holiday celebrations that bring together residents of all ages. Ammon also values education and invests in its youth through quality schools. It is served by two school districts: Bonneville Joint School District #93 and Idaho Falls School District #91. Both districts have received national recognition for their academic achievements. Even with all these modern developments, Ammon still holds onto its small-town charm. Many locals know each other by name, creating a close-knit community where people look out for one another. One notable landmark in Ammon is Tautphaus Park Zoo which opened in 1933 with just three animals: an elk named Nellie, a deer named Bambi (yes really!),and a monkey named Wally Jr.. Today it boasts over 400 animals including giraffes, lions, and penguins making it one of Eastern Idaho's top attractions! In conclusion, while small on paper - Ammon has made significant strides towards becoming an innovative and thriving community through embracing technology while maintaining its friendly atmosphere. With a rich history dating back centuries ago when Native American tribes roamed this area,to present day where cutting-edge technology meets traditional values; this makes it no surprise why so many choose to call Ammon, Idaho home.

Ammon, Idaho is a small city located in Bonneville County, situated just east of the larger city of Idaho Falls. With a population of around 16,000 people as of 2021, Ammon may seem like any other typical American town. However, its history tells a unique story that has shaped it into the community it is today. The first known inhabitants of the land now known as Ammon were indigenous tribes such as the Shoshone-Bannock and Northern Paiute. They lived off the land for thousands of years before European settlers arrived in this area in the early 1800s. In 1863, Mormon pioneers settled near present-day Idaho Falls and began farming and establishing communities in what was then known as Eagle Rock. By 1885, Eagle Rock had grown significantly and was officially incorporated as a town with a population of over 800 people. Fast forward to October 26th, 1900 – on this day an auction was held for plots of land within four miles south-east from downtown Eagle Rock (now Idaho Falls). These plots were part of an area that would later become Ammon. The new lots sold quickly due to their low prices and proximity to both water sources (the Snake River) and transportation routes (the railroad). This marked the beginning stages for what would soon be known as “New Sweden”, named after many Swedish immigrants who settled there at that time. By February 18th,1902 New Sweden’s name changed again when residents voted to change it to Ammon after William Ammon Clark who owned various businesses in eastern Idaho including one located within present-day Ammon city limits called “Clark’s Store”. During this same year both schools: New Sweden School #7 (later renamed Sunnydell School) & Goshen Elementary opened up. Throughout its early days, agriculture played a vital role in shaping the economy and culture of Ammon. The fertile land and access to irrigation water allowed for successful farming, particularly in the production of potatoes and sugar beets. The introduction of a railroad line in 1902 also boosted the town’s economy, making it easier to transport goods and connect with other cities. In addition to agriculture, Ammon also became known for its thriving dairy industry. In 1920, the first creamery was built which led to the establishment of several more over the next few years. These creameries not only provided jobs but also brought significant revenue to the town. Ammon continued to grow throughout the early 20th century, with new businesses and developments springing up around town. However, like many small towns across America, Ammon faced challenges during the Great Depression as well as World War II. Despite these setbacks, Ammon persevered and saw growth again in the post-war era. With an increase in population came a need for improved infrastructure such as paved roads and streetlights – all contributing factors that helped shape Ammon into a modern city. One significant event that put Ammon on the map was when it was chosen as one of four sites for Idaho National Laboratory (INL) research campuses in 1949. This brought high-paying jobs and further economic development to Ammon. The late 20th century saw even more growth for Ammon as technology companies began setting up operations there due to its proximity to INL research facilities. One such company was Micron Technology Inc., now one of Idaho's largest employers with over 8,000 employees statewide including those at their campus located within Ammon city limits. Today, agriculture still plays a role in shaping life in Ammon but has been joined by other industries such as healthcare services and education institutions like Brigham Young University-Idaho which is just minutes away from downtown area off US Highway I-15 exit #116 near Rigby city limits; J.R. Simplot also maintains a significant presence in the area with its potato processing plant located off of US Highway 20. In recent years, Ammon has seen rapid growth and development with new residential areas, commercial buildings, and community facilities. The city is known for its safe neighborhoods, excellent schools, and strong sense of community – all factors that have contributed to its growing population. One unique aspect of Ammon’s history is its adoption of a fiber optic network in 2011. This was made possible through a partnership between the city government and private companies. Today, Ammon boasts one of the fastest internet speeds in the nation at an affordable cost for residents and businesses alike. In conclusion, Ammon's history may seem like that of any small American town – from humble beginnings as a farming community to becoming a bustling modern city. However, it is this unique blend of agriculture, industry and technology that sets Ammon apart from other towns across America. Its rich history has shaped it into the thriving community it is today – one that continues to grow and evolve while maintaining its small-town charm.

Ammon, Idaho is a small city located in Bonneville County in the eastern part of the state. The area that is now Ammon was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Shoshone and Bannock peoples. In 1879, a group of settlers from Utah arrived in the area and established a community they named South Iona. They built homes, dug irrigation ditches for farming, and established a schoolhouse. However, due to conflicts with nearby Native American tribes and harsh weather conditions, many of these early settlers left within a few years. The town was later renamed Ammon after William J. Ammon, who served as an LDS Church bishop in the late 19th century. In 1907, Ammon became an incorporated village with its first mayor being George Higginson. A major event in Ammon's history occurred in 1915 when electricity was brought to the town through construction of power lines from Idaho Falls. This allowed for growth and development to occur at a faster pace. During World War II, Ammon saw increased economic activity as many workers from nearby military installations such as INEL (now known as Idaho National Laboratory) moved into the area and contributed to its growth.
