Lowrance Electronics, Inc. is an American company that specializes in marine electronics and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the company has a rich history that dates back to its beginnings in Boise, Idaho. The Lowrance story began with Darrell J. Lowrance, a passionate outdoorsman who had a love for fishing and hunting. In 1957, he founded his first company called The Little Green Box Company which manufactured electronic devices such as depth finders and sonar units for recreational fishermen. However, it was not until 1959 when Darrell's sons – Arlen and Carl joined the business – that the company truly took off. With their engineering background and innovative ideas, they helped transform their father's small business into one of the leading names in marine electronics. In 1964, Lowrance Electronics introduced its first iconic product - the Fish-Lo-K-Tor which was essentially a portable fish finder designed for small boats. This device revolutionized recreational fishing by providing anglers with real-time information about underwater structures and fish movements. By constantly innovating and improving their products based on customer feedback, Lowrance became a trusted name among outdoor enthusiasts around the world. In 1973, they launched their first GPS enabled device – Navico Loran C Receiver – making them pioneers in GPS technology for commercial use. Throughout its early years in Boise, Lowrance continued to expand its product line which now included radar systems, chartplotters and navigation software for both professional mariners as well as recreational boaters. In 2006 after more than five decades of success under family ownership; Darrell's grandsons decided to sell Lowrance Electronics to Simrad Yachting AS (a subsidiary of NAVICO). This decision proved to be beneficial for both companies as NAVICO gained access to new markets while preserving the legacy of quality products from Lowrance. Since then, Lowrance has continued to innovate and push boundaries in the marine electronics industry. Lowrance is a company that has been at the forefront of marine electronics for over 60 years. The company was founded in 1957 by Darrell Lowrance, who had a vision to create devices that would make fishing easier and more efficient. Since then, Lowrance has grown into one of the leading manufacturers of sonar and GPS technology for recreational and commercial boats. The Early Years Darrell Lowrance grew up in Joplin, Missouri, where he spent much of his time fishing on Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. As an avid fisherman, he quickly realized the need for better tools to locate fish underwater. At this time, fishermen relied mostly on intuition and knowledge passed down from generation to generation. But Darrell saw an opportunity to use technology to improve their chances of success. In 1957, Darrell founded Lowrance Electronics with his sons Arlen and Leone "Lee". They started by selling homemade flasher units out of their garage but soon expanded into manufacturing other electronic equipment like depth sounders and temperature gauges. Their first product was the Fish-Lo-K-Tor – a small green box with flashing lights that could detect schools of fish below the boat using sonar technology. This revolutionary device allowed fishermen to pinpoint their target rather than blindly casting lines into open water. Expansion Into Marine Electronics As demand for their products increased, Lowrance expanded its offerings beyond just fishing gear. In 1960 they released their first Loran receiver – a navigation system used primarily by sailors at sea which gave them precise location information based on radio signals from fixed ground stations. But it wasn't until 1981 when they introduced the legendary LMS (Liquid Measurement System) series – combining both sonar and GPS technologies into one unit – that they truly cemented themselves as leaders in marine electronics. The LMS series revolutionized boating by providing anglers with accurate maps displaying depth contours and fish locations, as well as precise GPS coordinates for navigation. This made it easier for fishermen to find their way back to productive fishing spots and increased their chances of catching more fish. Innovation & Acquisitions Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Lowrance continued to innovate and introduce new products that quickly became industry standards. In 1985 they released the first high-resolution LCD sonar unit – the X-15 – which provided a clearer picture of what was happening below the boat with better sensitivity and target definition. Then in 1997, Lowrance acquired Eagle Electronics – a company known for its affordable marine electronics targeting recreational anglers. This move expanded Lowrance's customer base while also providing access to advanced technology like color displays and side-scan imaging. The release of another groundbreaking product came in 2002 when Lowrance launched the LCX series – combining sonar, GPS, mapping capabilities, radar compatibility, and Ethernet networking into one unit. This all-in-one device set a new standard for multifunctional units on boats. In recent years, Lowrance has continued to stay ahead of the curve by introducing wireless connectivity through their Link app allowing users to control their devices remotely from smartphones or tablets. They have also implemented CHIRP (Compressed High-Intensity Radar Pulse) sonar technology that provides even greater detail of underwater structures and targets. Today & Future Outlook Lowrance continues to be an industry leader in marine electronics with a wide range of products designed for both recreational boaters and commercial fishermen. Their current offerings include chartplotters, fishfinders, radars, autopilots, AIS systems, and more. Boise, Idaho is the capital and most populous city of the state of Idaho. Located in the southwestern region of the state, Boise has a rich history that spans over 150 years. From its early beginnings as a small trading post to becoming a modern and vibrant city, Boise's history is full of interesting stories and significant events. The first recorded history of Boise dates back to 1810 when fur trappers from Canada arrived in what is now known as the Treasure Valley region. These trappers were attracted by the abundance of beaver in the area and established trade routes with Native American tribes who inhabited the land. In 1834, French-Canadian fur trader Francois Payette founded Fort Boise near present-day Parma, about 50 miles west of what would become Boise City. The fort was used for trading goods with Native Americans and served as an important stop on the Oregon Trail for pioneers heading westward. In 1862, gold was discovered in nearby Owyhee County which sparked a rush of miners into Idaho Territory. As more people settled in this part of Idaho, demand for agricultural products increased leading to an increase in farming settlements along the banks of the Boise River. The townsite that would eventually become known as "Boise City" was founded by Captain Richard Holcombe in July 1863. He chose this location because it had access to water from both sides – through irrigation canals from Squaw Creek on one side and directly from Boisé River on another side. By December 1863, there were only seven houses built at what we now know as downtown Boise but it quickly grew due to its strategic location along transportation routes such as steamboats on Snake River and railroads connecting East Coast states with California. In January 1865, President Abraham Lincoln signed legislation creating Idaho Territory which included what are now Montana and Wyoming states along with portions Utah territory eastwards until Continental Divide (present-day Colorado). Boise City was named the capital of Idaho Territory in December 1864. The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw significant growth in Boise as the city became a major transportation hub for the region. The Oregon Short Line railroad connected Boise to other cities like Salt Lake City, Denver, and San Francisco, making it an important center for trade and commerce. In addition to its role as a transportation hub, Boise also became known for its lumber industry. The abundant forests surrounding the city provided a steady supply of timber which was used to build homes, businesses, and even railroads. During World War II, Boise experienced another boom as thousands of soldiers were stationed at Gowen Field (now known as Gowen Army Air Base), located just south of the city. This influx of people led to rapid economic growth and expansion in industries such as agriculture and manufacturing. As more people moved into the area after World War II, suburbs began to develop around downtown Boise. These suburban areas offered affordable housing options outside of the busy city center while still being within commuting distance. In the latter half of the 20th century, urban renewal projects transformed downtown Boise into a modern business district with skyscrapers replacing older buildings. The iconic Capitol Building was also renovated during this time period. Today, Boise is a vibrant metropolitan area with over 230 thousand residents. It has maintained its status as a regional hub for education, healthcare services, government agencies, and technology companies. Boise's history is preserved through various museums such as The Basque Museum & Cultural Center which showcases artifacts from early settlers who came from Spain's Basque Country region; Idaho State Historical Museum that features exhibits on Native American cultures; Old Idaho Penitentiary which served as prison until mid-1970s now operates tours allowing visitors glimpse life behind bars between late-1800s up-to recent times when inmates were transferred elsewhere due overcrowding. In recent years, Boise has also emerged as a popular tourist destination with its vibrant downtown area, outdoor recreational opportunities, and events such as the famous Treefort Music Festival. The city continues to grow and evolve while still holding onto its rich history and heritage. From a small trading post to the bustling capital city it is today, Boise's journey through time is one of resilience and growth. With its diverse culture, strong economy, and beautiful surroundings, it's no wonder that people from all over the world are drawn to this gem in Idaho.

Boise, Idaho is the capital and most populous city of the state of Idaho. Situated along the Boise River in southwestern Idaho, it has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1863. The area where Boise now stands was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Shoshone-Bannock, Northern Paiute, and Nez Perce peoples. The first European explorer to visit this region was French-Canadian fur trapper François Payette in 1818. He named the river he discovered "Rivière la Riviere Boisse," which translates to "Wooded River" and eventually became known as "Boise." In 1834, Captain Benjamin Bonneville led an expedition through what is now Boise and established a trading post at Fort Boise on the Snake River. This post served as an important stop for travelers making their way westward on the Oregon Trail. In 1862, gold was discovered near present-day Idaho City, about 40 miles north of Boise. This sparked a rush of settlers into the area and led to the establishment of numerous mining towns along the Boise River. On July 7th, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln signed legislation creating what would become known as “Idaho Territory.” At this time, only about a dozen families lived in what is now downtown Boise. In September of that same year, Colonel Patrick Edward Connor arrived with his troops from California to establish a military fort on Table Rock overlooking present-day downtown Boise. The soldiers built barracks and other structures using local materials such as basalt rock from nearby quarries. By November of that year, overland stagecoaches began running between Salt Lake City and Walla Walla (in present-day Washington), passing through Fort Hall (eastern Idaho) then following parts of today’s I-84 before reaching Bluffton (now part of Caldwell). In April they added a stop at Boise City (now downtown) and in July the Overland Stage Company moved its main terminal to Boise from Walla Walla. In 1864, gold was discovered along the Boise River, leading to a new wave of settlers. In 1865, Fort Boise was abandoned by the military due to conflicts with local Native American tribes. The following year saw the founding of Idaho’s first newspaper, the “Idaho Tri-Weekly Statesman,” which is still in publication today as "The Idaho Statesman." As more people settled in what is now downtown Boise, it quickly became a bustling city with stores, hotels, saloons and businesses lining Main Street. By 1870, it had become an important supply center for miners and travelers heading to other parts of Idaho. In 1883, construction began on the Oregon Short Line Railroad linking Salt Lake City with Portland via Pocatello (eastern/central Idaho), Hailey/Ketchum/Sun Valley then across southern/eastern Oregon). This railroad brought increased economic growth and development to Boise. By early 1900s electricity supplanted gas lamps lighting streets including Broadway Avenue where streetcars ran until about1916 when they stopped running on Sunday afternoons so church goers could walk or drive their Model T Fords down what were dirt roads back then. Today's Capitol Mall area developed around that time too since there wasn't much else going on east of Hays Street except pasture land used for grazing sheep & cattle plus orchards growing fruit trees such as cherry & apple near North End homes surrounding Harrison Blvd between Warm Springs Ave & Hill Road. Boise continued to grow throughout the early part of the twentieth century. In 1936,the world-famous Morrison-Knudsen engineering firm established its headquarters in Boise. During World War II,Morrison-Knudsen played a major role in building ships for the U.S. Navy, earning Boise the nickname "The Supply Center of the Pacific." In the 1970s and 1980s, Boise experienced a surge in growth and development as high-tech companies began to move into the area. This led to an increase in population and economic prosperity for the city. Today, Boise is known for its vibrant downtown area filled with trendy restaurants, boutique shops, and cultural attractions such as museums and theaters. It also boasts a thriving outdoor recreation scene with access to nearby mountains, rivers, and lakes. Boise's rich history can be seen throughout the city in its historic buildings and landmarks such as Fort Boise Park (formerly Fort Logan), Old Idaho Penitentiary State Historic Site, and Basque Block – a neighborhood that celebrates Boise’s strong Basque heritage. Overall, Boise's history is one of resilience, growth, and adaptation from its early days as a small military outpost to becoming a bustling capital city with a diverse economy fueled by technology, services, and agriculture. The spirit of exploration that brought early settlers to this region continues today through ongoing efforts towards innovationand progress while still honoring its past.

Lowrance is a company that has been at the forefront of marine electronics since its founding in 1957. The company was founded by Darrell J. Lowrance and his brother Arlen, who were avid fishermen with a passion for technology and innovation. From humble beginnings in their garage in Wichita, Kansas, to becoming one of the leading manufacturers of marine electronics worldwide, Lowrance has come a long way. However, it was not until the early 1960s that Lowrance made its move to Boise, Idaho – a decision that would shape the company's future and solidify its place as an industry leader. Boise's location on the banks of the Boise River and within close proximity to various lakes and reservoirs made it an ideal location for Lowrance to establish itself as a major player in the marine electronics market. Moreover, Boise had a strong manufacturing base and skilled workforce – essential elements for any growing business. In 1961, Lowrance opened its first facility in Boise – a modest building measuring around 10,000 square feet. This facility served as both headquarters and production plant for all Lowrance products at that time. With just over two dozen employees working tirelessly to design and manufacture cutting-edge sonar devices for recreational fishing boats, this small but dedicated team laid down the foundation upon which Lowrance would continue to build. By focusing on innovation and quality control from day one, Lowrance quickly gained recognition among anglers across America as they introduced groundbreaking products such as Little Green Box (LGB) fish finder series – which revolutionized fishing by enabling anglers to see beneath water bodies using sonar technology. As demand grew rapidly for their innovative products throughout North America during this period; however; so did competition from other companies entering into what was now being recognized as an integral aspect of angling - "fish finding." In response to these challenges posed by competitors' entry into mariner electronic space, Lowrance started to diversify its product line by introducing new marine electronics such as temperature gauges and speed indicators. Lowrance's expansion into other areas of the marine electronics market proved to be a wise move. By the late 1960s, Lowrance had become one of the largest manufacturers of sonar devices in the world with over 200 employees working at their Boise facility. In recognition of their growing success and contribution to Idaho's economy, Darrell J. Lowrance was awarded "Idaho Man Of The Year" by Governor Don Samuelson in 1969 - an honor that further cemented Lowrance's place within the state. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Lowrance continued to innovate and expand its product line – introducing new technologies such as first-ever paper graph recorder (Paper Graph X-16) which enabled anglers to record depth readings on paper for future reference while fishing – something that was unheard-of before. In addition, during this period; Lowrance also opened up another manufacturing plant in Tulsa Oklahoma alongside expanding operations at its Boise location. This increased production capacity allowed them not only catered demands from North America but also helped them penetrate European markets too. Today, over 60 years since its founding, Lowrance continues to push boundaries and pave the way for marine electronics innovation – all thanks to its humble beginnings in Boise, Idaho. The company remains committed to providing anglers with cutting-edge technology that enhances their fishing experience while staying true to its roots and community in Idaho.

Lowrance is an American-based company that specializes in marine electronics and GPS technology. The company was founded in 1957 by Darrell J. Lowrance, who had a passion for fishing and saw the need for improved sonar devices to aid anglers on the water. Since then, Lowrance has become a leading brand in the marine industry, with a wide range of products designed for recreational boaters, professional fishermen, and navigators. One of Lowrance's most innovative contributions to the marine industry is its use of sonar technology. Sonar stands for Sound Navigation And Ranging and uses sound waves to detect underwater objects or structures. This enables users to have a better understanding of their surroundings while out on the water, making navigation and fishing easier and more efficient. The first product launched by Lowrance was the Fish-Lo-K-Tor depth finder in 1959. This device revolutionized fishing as it allowed anglers to see what lay beneath them while out on their boats. It quickly became popular among fishermen across America and marked the beginning of Lowrance's success story. In 1974, Lowrance introduced one of its most iconic products – The LCG Recorder (Liquid Crystal Graph). The LCG was revolutionary at that time because it replaced traditional paper graph recorders with electronic displays using LCD screens. This made it possible for users to see real-time data about fish locations and depths without having to rely on guesswork or interpretation from paper graphs. Throughout the years, Lowrance continued to innovate with new technologies such as side-scan imaging which provided even more detailed images of underwater structures like rocks or wrecks. In 1998 they released their first GPS-enabled chartplotter called GlobalMap1000 – further solidifying their position as leaders in marine electronics. As technology advanced rapidly over the years so did Lowrances' products; today they offer state-of-the-art products like Active Imaging™, which uses high-resolution imaging to provide a more comprehensive and detailed view of the underwater environment. This technology is especially useful for anglers as it helps them identify fish locations with greater precision. Lowrance has also expanded its product range beyond traditional sonar devices and chartplotters. They now offer radar systems, autopilots, VHF radios, and other navigation tools that are essential for boaters. All these products are designed with the latest technological advancements in mind to help users navigate safely on the water. In addition to their innovative technology, Lowrance is also committed to providing excellent customer service. The company offers various resources such as online tutorials and user manuals to help customers understand how to use their products effectively. Lowrance also has a dedicated customer support team that can assist with any questions or concerns regarding their products. Over the years, Lowrance has received numerous awards for its cutting-edge technologies and contributions to the marine industry. In 2018 alone, they won three National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) Product of Excellence Awards – an impressive feat considering there were over 100 nominees from different companies. As a leader in marine electronics, Lowrance continues to push boundaries by developing new technologies that enhance safety and efficiency while out on the water. Their commitment to innovation has made them a trusted brand among recreational boaters and professional fishermen alike. In recent years, Lowrance's popularity has extended beyond just fishing enthusiasts; their products have become essential tools for anyone who spends time on boats – whether it be for work or leisure activities like sailing or cruising. However, despite its success and reputation as an industry leader in marine electronics, Lowrance faces stiff competition from other brands such as Garmin and Raymarine. These competitors have also developed advanced technologies that cater specifically towards certain segments of the market. Nevertheless, Lowrances' strong focus on research & development allows them always stay ahead of trends within the industry while offering quality products at competitive prices. This has been a significant factor in their ability to maintain a loyal customer base and remain relevant in the highly competitive marine industry. In conclusion, Lowrance's journey from its humble beginnings as a small fishing electronics company to becoming one of the most recognized brands in the marine industry is nothing short of impressive. With its commitment to innovation, excellent customer service, and top-of-the-line products, Lowrance continues to set itself apart from its competitors and remains a trusted brand among boaters worldwide. As technology continues to evolve rapidly, it will be exciting to see what new advancements Lowrance brings forth in the future.
