Garmin Marine, a division of Garmin Ltd., is a leading manufacturer of marine electronics and navigational equipment. The company was founded in 1989 by Gary Burrell and Min Kao in Lenexa, Kansas. However, it wasn't until 1990 that the company moved to its current location in Post Falls, Idaho. Post Falls is a small city located on the Spokane River in northern Idaho. It is known for its picturesque scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities such as fishing, boating, and hiking. This makes it an ideal location for Garmin Marine's headquarters as well as their manufacturing facilities. The decision to move to Post Falls was not made lightly by the founders of Garmin Marine. In fact, they spent several months researching potential locations before settling on Post Falls. One of the main reasons for choosing this location was its proximity to major waterways such as Lake Coeur d'Alene and the Columbia River which are popular destinations for boaters and fishermen. Furthermore, being based in Idaho also offered numerous benefits for Garmin Marine including tax incentives and access to a skilled workforce familiar with outdoor activities like fishing and boating. These factors played a significant role in ensuring the success of the company. In its early years at Post Falls, Garmin Marine focused primarily on creating GPS-based products specifically designed for marine use. The first product introduced by the company was called "GPSMAP 100," which quickly became popular among recreational boaters due to its accuracy and ease-of-use compared to traditional navigation methods. As technology continued to advance rapidly over the next decade, so did Garmin Marine's product offerings. They expanded into other areas such as chartplotters (devices used for plotting routes), fishfinders (used for detecting fish underwater), radars (used for detecting objects or land masses beyond line-of-sight), autopilots (used for controlling steering automatically) ,and VHF radios (a two-way communication device used by boaters). Garmin Marine's commitment to innovation and quality has made it a leader in the marine electronics industry. The company has won numerous awards for its products, including being named "Manufacturer of the Year" by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) multiple times. In addition to their success in creating top-of-the-line products, Garmin Marine also places a strong emphasis on customer service and support. They have an extensive network of dealers and distributors worldwide, ensuring that customers can access their products no matter where they are located. One of the most significant milestones for Garmin Marine was when it became publicly traded on NASDAQ under the ticker symbol GRMN in 2000. This provided them with additional resources and opportunities to expand their operations further. Today, Garmin Marine continues to grow and innovate with new technologies such as Panoptix LiveScope sonar which provides real-time 3D images of fish underwater. They have also expanded into other areas such as sailing instruments and marine wearables like smartwatches designed specifically for water activities. The success of Garmin Marine can be attributed not only to its innovative products but also to its dedicated employees who are passionate about outdoor activities themselves. Many employees at Garmin are avid fishermen or boaters who use the company's products regularly, giving them firsthand knowledge on how to improve existing designs or create new ones. Furthermore, community involvement is essential for Garmin Marine. The company actively supports local events and organizations related to boating and fishing through sponsorships or donations. They also participate in environmental initiatives aimed at preserving waterways for future generations' enjoyment. In conclusion, Post Falls, Idaho has been an integral part of Garmin Marine's history since its move there over three decades ago. It is a reflection of the company's values: embracing nature while utilizing technology to enhance outdoor experiences safely. Garmin Marine: Navigating the Seas with Precision and Reliability The ocean has always captivated humans, offering a vast expanse of uncharted territories waiting to be explored. Throughout history, mankind has relied on various methods of navigation to traverse the seas, from celestial navigation using stars and constellations to magnetic compasses. However, as technology advanced, navigating the waters became more precise and efficient. One such advancement is Garmin Marine – a leading provider of marine electronics that offers innovative solutions for boaters worldwide. Founded in 1989 by Gary Burrell and Dr. Min Kao, Garmin began as a GPS device manufacturer for aviation and automotive industries. Over time, it expanded its product line to include marine electronics and became one of the most trusted brands in this field. With decades of experience in GPS technology combined with extensive research and development efforts specifically tailored for marine usage, Garmin has revolutionized how people navigate water bodies. Today, Garmin offers an extensive range of products designed explicitly for maritime use - from chartplotters and fishfinders to radar systems and autopilots - providing comprehensive solutions for all types of boats ranging from small fishing vessels to large yachts. Let us take a closer look at some of their flagship products that have made them a leader in marine electronics. Chartplotters are essentially electronic maps used by mariners to navigate through unknown or known waters efficiently. The chartplotter displays real-time information about your boat's position along with other essential data like depth contours, nautical charts, tides information etc., making it easier than ever before to plan safe routes while avoiding potential hazards undersea. One such revolutionary product is the Garmin GPSMAP series – an intuitive chartplotter equipped with high-resolution multi-touch widescreen display that provides crystal clear images even under direct sunlight or harsh weather conditions. It comes preloaded with BlueChart g3 coastal charts featuring Navionics data, making it easier to navigate through unfamiliar waters. Additionally, it offers built-in Wi-Fi connectivity that enables users to connect their smartphones or tablets for accessing the Garmin ActiveCaptain app. The app allows boaters to stay connected with smart notifications and access OneChart feature which lets them download new charts or update existing ones. Garmin Marine also offers a wide range of fishfinders – electronic devices used by fishermen to locate fishes beneath the water surface. The GPSMAP series also comes equipped with CHIRP sonar technology – an advanced imaging technique that uses multiple frequencies of sound waves to produce highly detailed images of underwater structures and fishes in real-time. This gives anglers a significant advantage while fishing as they can precisely target specific species without wasting time on unproductive areas. Besides chartplotters and fishfinders, Garmin Marine is well-known for its radar systems - a crucial tool for safe navigation during low visibility situations such as heavy fog or rain. Their radars use advanced pulse compression technology that reduces clutter on the screen while providing precise information about objects (including other boats) within close proximity, thereby preventing potential collisions. Moreover, Garmin Marine's autopilots are the perfect solution for long journeys when you want some rest from steering your boat manually continuously. These autopilots offer unparalleled accuracy and reliability in maintaining course heading even under rough sea conditions using features like Shadow Drive Technology - which automatically disengages if manual steering is detected so you can steer quickly without having to disengage the autopilot. Furthermore, one cannot overlook Garmin's commitment towards safety at sea; their VHF marine radios help maintain communication between boats and shore authorities during emergencies effectively. Equipped with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) capabilities – these radios allow boaters to send distress signals along with location information via satellite directly to rescue services ensuring quick response times. In conclusion, it is evident that Garmin has left no stone unturned in providing boaters with the most advanced and reliable marine electronics. With continuous innovation, extensive research, and a deep understanding of the needs of seafarers, Garmin Marine has become an indispensable companion for anyone venturing into the vast ocean. As technology continues to evolve, we can only imagine what groundbreaking products they will bring in the future to make our journey through water bodies even more efficient and enjoyable.

With a population of just over 36,000 residents, Post Falls may not be large in size but it has a rich history that dates back to prehistoric times. The earliest inhabitants of what is now Post Falls were Native American tribes such as the Coeur d’Alene, Kalispel, and Spokane people. These indigenous groups lived off the land and utilized the resources provided by nature for their survival. They fished in the river and hunted game animals like deer and elk for food. In 1807, explorer David Thompson was one of the first Europeans to arrive in this region while he was surveying trade routes for his employer – The North West Company. He established relationships with some local tribes and traded goods with them along what came to be known as Thompson’s Trail. In 1871, Frederick Post became an important figure in Post Falls' history when he built a lumber mill near where Interstate 90 currently crosses over Seltice Way. The town's name was derived from him; however some accounts suggest that it was named after his father Jacob Post who also had ties to early settlement efforts at Lake Pend Oreille (Sandpoint). The arrival of railroads played an essential role in shaping up modern-day Post Falls. In late-1880s James McMillan bought land above Fredrick post’s mill site next to Spokane River which resulted into construction Cascade Mill & Lumber Company sawmill operation which spurred significant growth within few years time frame. With more jobs available due to industrialization brought about by logging and milling activities, people started migrating towards this area resulting into establishment many other businesses such as general stores, hotels, saloons etcetera all contributing towards growth of Post Falls. In 1891, the Spokane River Electric Light and Power Company built a hydroelectric dam on the Spokane River which provided electricity to the town and surrounding areas. This brought about more economic growth and development in the region. The early 1900s saw an increase in farming activities as people started to cultivate wheat, oats, hay, potatoes and other crops in the fertile land around Post Falls. The city's first school was established in 1905 followed by its first church – St Mary’s Catholic Church – in 1906. Post Falls continued to grow throughout the early part of the twentieth century with more businesses opening up such as a bank, theater, newspaper and even a roller skating rink. In 1917, it officially became incorporated as a city. With World War II came another significant change for Post Falls. Farragut Naval Training Station was established nearby at Lake Pend Oreille bringing with it thousands of military personnel who were trained there during the war. This resulted into population boom within few years time frame significantly changing social fabric of this small community forever. During post-war era interstate highway system developed culminating into construction Interstate-90 through Post Falls which opened up possibilities for new industries like tourism creating new jobs thereby contributing towards rapid economic growth & development over next few decades making what we know today as modern day bustling metropolis named “Post falls”. Today, Post Falls is no longer just known for its logging or milling industries but has emerged as a thriving city with diverse economies including manufacturing plants such as Buck Knives Inc., Cabela's distribution center etcetera along with many other smaller companies all providing employment opportunities to local residents. Post Falls, Idaho is a city located in northern Idaho along the Spokane River. It is situated between Coeur d'Alene to the east and Spokane, Washington to the west. The area where Post Falls now stands was originally inhabited by Native American tribes including the Coeur d'Alene and Kalispel Indians. In the late 1800s, European settlers began arriving in search of land for farming and timber resources. One of these early settlers was Frederick Post, who arrived in 1871 with his family and established a homestead on what is now known as "Post's Point." The town that developed around his homestead became known as "Post Falls" after him. The arrival of the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1886 brought new opportunities for growth and development to Post Falls. The railroad provided a means for transporting goods and people, contributing to an increase in population and economic activity. In 1892, Post Falls officially became a city with its first mayor being elected that same year. By this time, it had become a bustling hub for timber production with several sawmills operating along the river. Throughout the early 1900s, agriculture also played a significant role in shaping Post Falls' economy. Initially focused on creating handheld GPS devices for outdoor activities like hiking and camping, Garmin later expanded its product line to cater to marine navigation needs. Today, their extensive range of marine electronics includes chartplotters, fishfinders, radar systems, autopilots, VHF radios, transducers and more. One of the key factors behind Garmin's popularity is their commitment to providing superior quality products that are both user-friendly and reliable. Their products are designed using advanced technologies such as Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), sonar imaging technology like CHIRP (Compressed High-Intensity Radar Pulse), DownVü/SideVü scanning sonars for clearer underwater imagery. Garmin's chartplotters are particularly notable as they combine detailed mapping capabilities with intuitive controls to provide accurate navigation data on a high-resolution display screen. This allows users to plan routes efficiently while avoiding hazards such as rocks or shallow water areas. The charts include vital information such as depth contours, spot soundings along with tidal stations which ensure safe passage through unfamiliar waters. Another standout feature offered by Garmin is their Panoptix LiveScope technology - one-of-a-kind live scanning sonar system that provides real-time 3D images below your boat up to 200 feet away. This technology allows users to see fish swimming and even track their movements, providing a significant advantage for fishing enthusiasts. Garmin also offers a range of autopilots that make steering your boat effortless and accurate. These systems use advanced algorithms to maintain course and heading while compensating for wind, waves, currents, and tidal changes. With features like Shadow Drive technology that disengages the autopilot if the helm is turned manually, Garmin's autopilots provide an added layer of safety. In addition to navigation aids, Garmin has also developed innovative communication devices like VHF radios with built-in AIS (Automatic Identification System) receiver that enables mariners to exchange real-time information about vessel traffic in their vicinity. These radios come equipped with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) capabilities which can send a distress signal at the press of a button - making it an essential tool for emergency situations. Apart from their top-of-the-line products, Garmin also provides comprehensive customer support through various channels such as phone assistance, online forums or email services. They regularly update software on their devices ensuring customers have access to the latest features and improvements. As responsible corporate citizens, Garmin is committed to protecting our planet's natural resources by implementing sustainable practices throughout its operations. From using eco-friendly packaging materials to reducing energy consumption in production processes - they strive towards minimizing environmental impact without compromising product quality. Over the years, Garmin has received numerous accolades for its marine electronics including multiple NMEA Product Awards and Boating Industry Top 100 recognitions. Their constant innovation and dedication towards improving user experience have made them one of the most trusted brands in marine electronics worldwide. In conclusion, Garmin Marine has revolutionized how we navigate open waters by offering state-of-the-art products designed with precision and cutting-edge technologies. Whether you are an avid angler or a seasoned sailor looking for reliable navigation tools - there is no doubt that choosing Garmin will give you confidence when navigating through the vast blue waters. With their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, Garmin has truly become a leader in marine electronics, making your time on the water safer and more enjoyable.
