Smooth Sailing: Tips, Trends & Boat Talk

Honda Marine, a division of the Honda Motor Company, has been making waves in the boating industry for over 50 years. The company's history in Post Falls, Idaho began in 1979 when it established its first manufacturing facility outside of Japan. Since then, Honda Marine has become a major player in the marine market and continues to provide high-quality outboard engines and marine equipment. The story of Honda Marine's success in Post Falls is one that highlights innovation, commitment to quality, and dedication to customer satisfaction. It all started with Soichiro Honda, founder of the Honda Motor Company. In 1964, he embarked on a journey to create an outboard engine that would be lightweight yet powerful enough for boats ranging from small dinghies to larger vessels. After several years of research and development, Honda launched its first outboard motor – the GB30 – at the Tokyo Boat Show in 1964. This engine was revolutionary as it utilized advanced technology such as air-cooling instead of water-cooling systems used by other manufacturers at that time. It also featured a four-stroke design which made it more fuel-efficient compared to traditional two-stroke engines. With this initial success under their belt, Honda continued to innovate and expand into different markets around the world. In 1978 they introduced their first four-stroke outboard engine specifically designed for recreational use -the BF75- which quickly gained popularity among boat enthusiasts. In order to meet increasing demand for their products worldwide, Honda decided to establish its first production plant outside Japan. After extensive research and consideration, they chose Post Falls as their location due to its favorable business climate and access to skilled labor force. Construction of the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility began in September 1979 with an initial investment of $12 million dollars. By December 1980,the factory was fully operational with an annual capacity of producing up to10 thousand units per year. The decision to establish a manufacturing plant in Post Falls proved to be a wise one, as it allowed Honda Marine to expand its presence in the North American market. The company's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction quickly gained the trust of boat owners and dealers alike. Over the years, Honda Marine has continued to innovate and improve its products. In 1986, they introduced their VTEC (Variable Valve Timing & Lift Electronic Control) technology in their outboard engines which improved performance and fuel efficiency even further. This was followed by the introduction of their first electronic fuel injected engine –the BF150- in 2002 which set new standards for power and reliability. In addition to producing high-quality outboard engines, Honda Marine also offers an extensive range of marine equipment such as propellers, gauges, controls, rigging kits, and other accessories that are designed specifically for their engines. This comprehensive approach allows customers to have complete confidence when purchasing any product from Honda Marine. Today, Honda Marine's Post Falls facility covers an area of over 500 thousand square feet with around 700 employees working tirelessly to produce some of the most advanced outboard engines on the market. The factory not only serves as a production facility but also houses R&D departments dedicated solelyto improving existing products and developing innovative technologies for future models. Moreover,Honda's commitment towards environmental sustainability is evident through their ISO14001 certification -an international standard for environmental management systems-which was awardedto them in 1999.Their efforts towards reducing emissionsand implementing eco-friendly practices have earned them accolades from various organizations including being named "Greenest Outboards" by J.D Power Associates multiple times. In conclusion,Honda Motor Company's journey into the marine market has been nothing shortof remarkable. Its success can be attributedto its founder SoichiroHonda’s vision coupled with unwavering dedication towards providing top-of-the-line products.Honda Marine's presence in Post Falls, Idaho has not only contributed to the local economy but also to the overall growth of the boating industry. With its constant drive for innovation and commitment towards environmental sustainability, Honda Marine is set to continue making waves in the marine world for years to come.

Post Falls is a small but rapidly growing city located in the northern part of Idaho, United States. It is situated along the Spokane River and borders both Washington state and Montana. With a population of approximately 37,000 people, it may not be as well-known as other cities in Idaho such as Boise or Coeur d'Alene, but Post Falls has its own unique charm and character that make it an attractive place to live, work, and visit. The history of Post Falls can be traced back to the early 1800s when Native American tribes inhabited the area. The first European explorers arrived in the late 1700s with fur trappers following soon after. In the mid-19th century, gold was discovered in nearby areas which brought an influx of settlers to what would eventually become Post Falls. One significant event that shaped Post Falls into what it is today was the construction of dams on the Spokane River in the early 1900s. This resulted in a steady supply of hydroelectric power which attracted industries and businesses to establish themselves in this region. Logging operations also flourished during this time due to easy access to water transportation via the river. Despite its growth over time, Post Falls did not officially become incorporated until 1891 when it was known as “Havermale's Landing.” However, by popular demand from residents who wanted their town named after them rather than someone else’s name (the town was previously named for James Havermale), they voted for "Post Falls" because there were falls on either side of where boats were loaded onto flat railcars before being pulled overland by horses past those waterfalls towards Spokane. Today, Post Falls boasts an eclectic mix of old-fashioned charm blended with modern amenities. Its downtown area features historic buildings from its past while also offering trendy shops and restaurants that cater to a younger crowd. One notable landmark is The Red Lion Templin's Hotel, which was built in 1904 and has been a staple of the community ever since. The city prides itself on its strong sense of community and is known for its numerous events and festivals throughout the year. Each summer, residents and visitors can enjoy the Post Falls Festival by the Falls, which features live music, food vendors, craft booths, and activities for all ages. In addition to this annual event, there are also regular farmers' markets where locals can purchase fresh produce from nearby farms. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do in Post Falls as well. The Spokane River offers opportunities for fishing, boating, kayaking, and rafting while nearby parks provide hiking trails with breathtaking views. The popular Q'emiln Park has a beach area perfect for swimming or relaxing in the sun. Golfers can hit the links at one of several golf courses in the area including Prairie Falls Golf Club which boasts stunning scenery along with challenging holes. Post Falls is also home to several excellent schools making it an ideal place to raise a family. Its location near larger cities such as Coeur d'Alene provides access to additional educational opportunities at colleges like North Idaho College or Eastern Washington University. Economically speaking, Post Falls has seen tremendous growth over recent years due to its strategic location near major highways (Interstates 90 & 95) that connect it with other major metropolitan areas like Spokane and Seattle. This makes it attractive for businesses looking to expand their reach into new markets while still enjoying lower costs of living compared to bigger cities. In terms of employment opportunities within Post Falls itself, manufacturing jobs have been steadily increasing thanks to companies such as Quest Aircraft Company who manufacture utility planes used worldwide by organizations such as law enforcement agencies or missionary groups providing humanitarian aid around remote regions without landing strips suitable enough otherwise needed until now perhaps only helicopters capable doing so beforehand anyways but not always available when they’re really needed most urgently sometimes. This is just one example of the diverse industries that have found a home in Post Falls. Furthermore, the cost of living in Post Falls is significantly lower than many other cities across the United States, making it an attractive option for those looking to relocate or retire. Housing prices are also relatively affordable when compared to nearby cities like Coeur d'Alene and Spokane. In conclusion, Post Falls may not be as well-known as some of its neighboring cities but it has quietly built itself into a thriving community with a rich history and promising future. With its scenic location, strong sense of community, and economic opportunities, this little gem in northern Idaho has much to offer for both residents and visitors alike. So whether you are seeking outdoor adventures or simply looking for a friendly place to call home, Post Falls has something for everyone.

Honda Marine is a division of Honda Motor Co., Ltd, which has been producing high-quality engines for various applications since its founding in 1948. The company’s history can be traced back to the early 1900s when Soichiro Honda, the founder of Honda Motor Co., Ltd, began his career as an apprentice at Art Shokai, a Japanese automobile repair shop. In 1937, Soichiro established Tokai Seiki Heavy Industry Co. to produce piston rings and other automotive parts. However, due to World War II and the resulting shortage of materials and resources, the company was forced to shut down its operations. After Japan surrendered in 1945, Soichiro restarted his business by utilizing surplus radio generators from military tanks. He modified these generators into power sources for bicycles and called it “The Power Free”. This innovation marked Honda’s entry into the motorized vehicle industry. In 1948, with only twelve employees under its wing including Takeo Fujisawa who became President later on; Honda Motor Company was founded with a capital investment of just ¥1 million (equivalent to approximately $27 thousand USD). Their first product was a two-stroke engine that could be attached to any bicycle frame turning it into an affordable mode of transportation for post-war Japan. Two years later in 1950, they introduced their first complete motorcycle – Dream D-Type – which featured advanced features such as full-press steel frame bodywork and clip-on handlebars. The bike quickly gained popularity among consumers who were looking for efficient and reliable transportation options after the war. However, it wasn’t until 1954 when Honda unveiled their C100 Super Cub model that they truly made their mark on the global market. Post Falls, Idaho is a small city located in northern Kootenai County, with a population of approximately 36,000 people. It sits at the confluence of the Spokane and Clark Fork rivers, just downstream from Coeur d'Alene Lake. The area has been inhabited for thousands of years by Native American tribes such as the Coeur d'Alene and Kalispel. However, it was not until the mid-19th century that non-indigenous settlers began to arrive. In 1871, Frederick Post established a lumber mill near the falls on the Spokane River which gave rise to what would eventually become known as Post Falls. He also constructed a wooden bridge across the river to connect his mill with other parts of Idaho and neighboring states. This bridge served as an important transportation route for many years until it was replaced by a steel truss bridge in 1917. The town began to grow rapidly after the arrival of Northern Pacific Railroad during its expansion into Washington State in 1882. With improved transportation access, more people were attracted to settle in Post Falls and engage in logging and agriculture industries. Incorporated as a village in 1891 with only about one hundred residents at that time, Post Falls continued to develop over the next few decades despite setbacks such as fires that destroyed much of its downtown areas twice within twenty-five years. During this period, two major industries emerged – timber/lumber production and hydropower generation – both centered around water resources provided by Spokane River's powerful falls. In fact, between early mills owned by Frederick Post himself (now operated under Potlatch Corporation) and smaller independent operations set up along either side of Spokane River’s banks; most businesses were related directly or indirectly to sawmilling trade throughout much of twentieth-century regionally-dominated economy. A significant event shaping modern-day complexion took place when U.S Bureau Reclamation completed construction Grand Coulee Dam in 1942. Not only did it inundate Spokane River's falls, but it also created a vast network of reservoirs and irrigation canals giving rise to agriculture industry that now accounts for significant portion of Kootenai County’s economy. Another landmark event happened in 1960 when Idaho Governor Robert Smylie signed legislation creating the North Idaho College (NIC) campus at Post Falls. Initially, the college was located within school district premises before moving into its current location off I-90 in 1973. By then, timber industry had begun to decline and NIC’s presence brought diversification both educationally as well as economically to region. For example, University of Idaho acquired partnership with NIC opening new doors for students within engineering programs plus other research opportunities through Coeur d’Alene Education Research Consortium (CERC). The city officially became incorporated in 1973 after an election where residents voted overwhelmingly for municipal status. In subsequent years following incorporation; Post Falls has seen continued growth in population while maintaining strong community bonds centered on family values and outdoor recreation activities such as boating, fishing, camping etc. Today's Post Falls is home to a thriving business community with several major employers including Buck Knives Inc., Wal-Mart Distribution Center, and Jacklin Seed Company among others. The city also boasts a variety of recreational options including parks like Q'emiln Park which offers hiking trails along the river banks and access points for kayaking or rafting. In recent years, Post Falls has experienced rapid growth due to its proximity to Spokane metropolitan area coupled with affordable housing prices compared to neighboring cities such as Coeur d'Alene. This influx of new residents has led to increased development in residential areas as well as commercial spaces. Despite this growth and development, Post Falls maintains its small-town charm with annual events like The Festival at Sandpoint concert series held at Greyhound Park & Event Center drawing visitors from all over the region. The city also hosts a weekly farmer's market during the summer months and has a strong sense of community with volunteer organizations and civic groups. In conclusion, Post Falls, Idaho has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a small lumber town to become a thriving city with diverse industries and growing population. Its rich history, beautiful location, and welcoming community make it an attractive place for people to live, work, and visit. As the city continues to evolve and grow in the future, one thing is certain – Post Falls will always hold onto its roots while embracing progress.

Post Falls, Idaho is a city located in Kootenai County on the western edge of the state. It is situated along the Spokane River and borders the neighboring city of Coeur d'Alene. The area now known as Post Falls was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Coeur d'Alene and Spokane tribes. In 1805, explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark passed through the region during their expedition to find a water route to the Pacific Ocean. In 1871, Frederick Post established a lumber mill at what would become Post Falls. The town grew around this mill and was named after its founder. The first school in Post Falls opened in 1882, with just nine students enrolled. In 1888, gold was discovered near Kellogg Creek (now known as Blackwell Island) just north of Post Falls. This sparked a gold rush that brought many people to the area searching for fortune. However, it was short-lived as most of the gold had already been mined by Native Americans prior to European settlement. Throughout its early years, agriculture played an important role in shaping Post Falls' economy. Farmers grew crops such as wheat and oats while also raising livestock like cattle and sheep. In addition to farming, logging continued to be a major industry for decades with several sawmills operating in or near Post Falls. In 1903, construction began on two hydroelectric dams along the Spokane River: one at Upper Falls (now called Davis Dam) and one at Lower falls (now called Cougar Gulch). These dams provided power for nearby mining operations but also helped fuel industrial growth in Post Falls itself. During World War II, there was an influx of workers who came specifically because of jobs created by defense plants such as Kaiser Aluminum which produced aluminum used for planes during wartime production efforts. As more people moved into post-war America's suburbs from urban areas across America, Post Falls grew too. In 1962, the Interstate 90 freeway was completed through Post Falls, connecting the city with Spokane to the west and Coeur d'Alene to the east. In 1971, a local business owner named Chuck Currie established a theme park called Silverwood just north of Post Falls. The park has since expanded and is now one of Idaho's most popular tourist attractions. Today, Post Falls is a thriving community with a population of over 34,000 people. It continues to attract new residents and businesses while also preserving its rich history through landmarks like the original mill site which is now part of Q'emiln Park on the Spokane River. The city also hosts annual events such as "Post Fallidays" celebrating local culture and heritage.

Honda Marine, a division of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., has been manufacturing outboard motors in Post Falls, Idaho since 1979. The company's presence in the area has not only provided jobs and economic growth for the community, but it has also played a significant role in shaping the marine industry. The story of Honda Marine in Post Falls begins with founder Soichiro Honda's dream to create high-quality engines that would revolutionize transportation. In 1964, this dream became a reality when Honda introduced their first outboard motor – the GB30. This small but powerful engine quickly gained popularity and set the foundation for what would become one of the most successful outboard motor companies in history. In 1978, Honda began searching for a location to establish its first U.S.-based production facility. After much consideration and extensive research on potential sites across the country, they chose Post Falls as their home base. There were several factors that contributed to this decision – including access to an abundant water supply from Lake Coeur d'Alene and favorable business incentives from local government officials. Construction on the plant began in early 1979, and by October of that year, production had already begun on four-stroke engines ranging from 2-50 horsepower (hp). This was significant because at the time two-stroke engines dominated the market due to their lower cost and simplicity. However, Honda's commitment to innovation led them down a different path – one that focused on creating more efficient and environmentally friendly products. This dedication paid off when they introduced their flagship model BF1A (40 hp) at boat shows across North America in late 1980. This engine featured groundbreaking technology such as electronic ignition control which improved fuel efficiency by up to 20%. It was also significantly quieter than other models on the market – another result of Honda's commitment to reducing noise pollution. Over time, Honda expanded its product line to include a range of outboard motors from 2-250 hp. This allowed them to cater to a wide variety of boaters – from recreational users to commercial fishermen. The company also continued to improve its technology, introducing features such as VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) in the late 1990s, which improved engine performance across all rpm ranges. Throughout the years, Honda Marine has remained committed not only to innovation but also sustainability. In 2006, they became the first marine engine manufacturer in the world to earn certification for meeting California's stringent emissions standards – known as CARB (California Air Resources Board). This was a significant achievement that demonstrated their dedication to protecting our planet's natural resources. In addition to their environmental efforts, Honda Marine has also played an active role in supporting local communities. They have partnered with organizations such as Trout Unlimited and Idaho Fish & Game on various conservation projects aimed at preserving waterways and promoting responsible boating practices. Today, Honda Marine employs over 500 people at its Post Falls plant and continues to be an integral part of the local economy. Their engines are used by millions of boaters worldwide and have earned a reputation for reliability, fuel efficiency, and low emissions. In fact, according to data from market research firm Info-Link Technologies Inc., Honda consistently ranks among the top three brands for customer satisfaction in four-stroke outboards. Looking towards the future, Honda Marine remains committed not only to producing high-quality products but also being a leader in technological advancements within the marine industry. In recent years they have introduced new models with advanced features such as BLAST™ (Boosted Low Speed Torque) which provides improved acceleration and hull control at low speeds – making it easier for beginners or those navigating tight spaces. In conclusion, Honda Marine's history in Post Falls is one filled with determination, innovation, and community involvement. From humble beginnings over forty years ago, the company has grown to become a major player in the marine industry and a vital part of the local economy. As they continue to evolve and adapt to changing market demands, it is clear that Honda Marine will remain at the forefront of innovation for years to come.

Honda is a company that is widely known for its automotive products, but it also has a strong presence in the marine industry. Honda Marine was established in 1964 and has been providing reliable and innovative outboard engines and accessories to boaters around the world ever since. The history of Honda Marine can be traced back to Soichiro Honda, the founder of Honda Motor Co., who had always been passionate about building engines. In 1947, he started developing small engines for bicycles which eventually led to the production of motorcycles. It wasn't until 1964 that Honda ventured into the marine industry with their first outboard engine – The GB30. Since then, Honda has continued to revolutionize the marine industry with their advanced technology and commitment to quality. They have developed an extensive range of outboard engines suitable for a variety of boats including fishing boats, pontoons, inflatables, cruisers, and more. One aspect that sets Honda Marine apart from other companies in this field is their dedication towards environmental sustainability. Their slogan "Blue skies for our children" reflects their mission to reduce carbon emissions by developing eco-friendly products without compromising performance or reliability. Innovation plays a crucial role in all aspects of Honda's operations – from design and engineering to sales and customer service. This passion for innovation can be seen in every product they offer. For instance, one of their most popular models – The BF250 V6 four-stroke engine – features advanced technologies such as Intelligent Shift & Throttle (iST) system which allows effortless shifting between gears while maintaining smooth acceleration. Another notable feature found across all Honda Marine outboards is VTEC (Variable Valve Timing & Lift Electronic Control). This technology optimizes valve timing based on engine RPM resulting in improved fuel efficiency at cruising speeds while delivering maximum power at higher RPMs when needed. Apart from these technological advancements, another factor that makes Honda Marine stand out is their commitment to customer satisfaction. They offer a 5-year limited warranty on all new outboard engines, and their dealers are trained to provide exceptional service and support for their products. In addition to outboard engines, Honda Marine also offers a wide range of accessories such as propellers, gauges, controls, fuel tanks, and more. These accessories are designed to complement the performance of their engines and enhance the boating experience for customers. One notable initiative by Honda Marine is the "Clean Marina Program" which aims to promote environmentally friendly practices in marinas across North America. This program provides guidelines for marina operators on how to minimize pollution from boats and facilities while promoting sustainable boating practices among customers. Honda Marine also actively supports marine conservation efforts through partnerships with organizations such as The Ocean Foundation. In 2019, they launched an initiative called “The Power of Boating” which focuses on raising awareness about ocean health issues among boaters while encouraging them to be responsible stewards of the environment. In recent years, there has been a growing demand for electric-powered boats due to environmental concerns. In response to this trend, Honda has developed an Electric Drive unit – BF50 – which can power small boats without any emissions or noise pollution. This move towards sustainability aligns with Honda's long-term vision of reducing carbon footprint in all areas of its operations. Honda Marine's commitment towards excellence has not gone unnoticed; they have received numerous awards over the years including NMMA Innovation Award for Eco-Friendly Outboards (BF90), Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) Award from National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), Best Buy Awards from Consumer Guide®, just to name a few. In conclusion, Honda Marine's success can be attributed not only to its advanced technology but also its core values that prioritize innovation, customer satisfaction, and environmental sustainability. Their dedication towards creating reliable yet eco-friendly products continues to set them apart in the competitive marine industry market. As they continue to expand their presence and introduce new products, Honda Marine is poised to remain a leading name in the marine industry for years to come.
