Lowrance is a well-known company in the marine electronics industry, specializing in producing high-quality fishfinders and navigation systems. Founded over 60 years ago, Lowrance has a rich history that dates back to the small town of Rexburg, Idaho. The story of Lowrance began in 1957 when Darrell J. Lowrance and his sons, Darrell Jr. and Arlen, moved from California to Rexburg, Idaho. The family had a passion for fishing and saw an opportunity to develop new technology that would revolutionize the way people fished. At the time, fishermen relied on traditional methods such as watching their lines or using handheld flashlights to spot fish at night. This was not only tedious but also limited their ability to catch fish efficiently. The Lowrances recognized this problem and set out to find a solution. In 1959, they introduced the world's first transistorized sonar unit – known as "The Little Green Box." It was portable and could be easily attached to boats or used from shorelines. This groundbreaking invention allowed fishermen to see beneath the surface of water and locate schools of fish with ease. The Little Green Box quickly gained popularity among anglers across America for its accuracy and simplicity. Its success led Darrell Jr., who had taken over as president of Lowrance after his father’s passing in 1962, to establish a factory in Tulsa, Oklahoma where production began on a larger scale. However, despite expanding its operations outside Rexburg, Idaho remained an integral part of Lowrance's history. In fact, it wasn't until 1976 that the company officially relocated its headquarters from Tulsa back home to Rexburg. Rexburg played an essential role in shaping Lowrance into what it is today by providing access to skilled labor force due to nearby universities like Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYU-I) which opened its doors just two years before relocating. In addition to its skilled workforce, Rexburg also provided a strategic location for Lowrance's operations. The town is located in the heart of some of the best fishing spots in North America, making it an ideal testing ground for their products. Lowrance continued to innovate and expand its product line throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 1987, they introduced the LMS-1000 – a multifunctional fishfinder with mapping capabilities that allowed users to navigate while tracking fish at the same time. By the late 1990s, Lowrance had become a household name among fishermen worldwide. Its reputation for producing high-quality marine electronics made them leaders in the industry. In recognition of this success, Darrell Jr., along with his brother Arlen were both inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Wisconsin. As technology advanced rapidly during this period, so did Lowrance’s products. They introduced GPS navigation systems such as GlobalMap and iFinder which revolutionized marine navigation by providing accurate positioning information using satellites. In recent years, Lowrance has expanded beyond just fishfinders and navigation systems. They now offer a wide range of products including chartplotters, radar systems, autopilots and more – all designed to make life on water easier for boaters around the world. Today, Lowrance remains committed to innovation and excellence as they continue to develop cutting-edge technologies that enhance fishing experiences. Despite being acquired by Navico Holdings AS (a parent company based in Norway) in 2006; Rexburg continues to be an essential part of their operations with over half of their employees still based there. The impact of Lowrance on Rexburg cannot be overstated. Not only have they created jobs and contributed significantly to Idaho's economy but also fostered a culture centered around innovation and outdoor recreation within the community. In conclusion, from humble beginnings in Rexburg, Idaho to becoming a global leader in the marine electronics industry, Lowrance's history is one of perseverance and innovation. Their commitment to providing high-quality products has earned them a loyal customer base and solidified their place as pioneers in the fishing world. Rexburg will always hold a special place in Lowrance's story, serving as both its birthplace and home for over 60 years.

Lowrance is a leading manufacturer of marine electronics and fish finding equipment. Founded in 1957 by Darrell J. Lowrance, the company has become synonymous with innovation, quality, and reliability in the fishing industry. With its headquarters located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lowrance has been at the forefront of developing cutting-edge technology for anglers around the world. The history of Lowrance dates back to the late 1940s when founder Darrell J. Lowrance was an avid angler himself. He noticed that traditional methods of navigation such as paper charts and visual landmarks were not always reliable or accurate out on the water. This sparked his interest in finding a better way to navigate while fishing. In 1953, Darrell began experimenting with sonar technology which uses sound waves to detect objects underwater. After years of research and development, he created the first recreational sonar device known as "The Little Green Box" in 1959 – named after its distinctive green display screen. This invention revolutionized fishing by giving anglers a real-time view of what was happening below their boats. The Little Green Box quickly gained popularity among fishermen who could now easily locate fish and structure under water using this new technology. Over time, Lowrance continued to innovate and improve upon its original design by introducing more features such as temperature sensors, depth alarms, bottom tracking systems and even GPS capabilities – all designed specifically for fishermen. In 1982, Lowrance launched its first LMS (Line Management System) which combined radar-like views with advanced sonar data allowing anglers to see both structure beneath their boat as well as fish above it at once – making it easier than ever before to identify prime fishing spots. As technology continued to advance rapidly over the next decades so did Lowrance's product line-up. In 1996 they introduced GlobalMap series which brought GPS mapping into play along with detailed charts from Navionics, C-MAP and other providers. In 2004, Lowrance released the revolutionary StructureScan sonar system which provided crystal-clear imaging of structure and fish up to 300 feet away from the boat. This was a game changer for anglers as it allowed them to see not just what was directly below their boat but also what was happening to either side of it. Today, Lowrance offers a wide range of products including fishfinders, chartplotters, navigation systems, radar units and more – all designed specifically for marine use. Their most recent innovation is ActiveTarget Live Sonar which provides real-time views of fish movements in front or around the boat allowing anglers to quickly target and catch more fish than ever before. Beyond its innovative products, Lowrance has also become known for its commitment to quality and reliability. Each product undergoes rigorous testing both on land and at sea before being released to market – ensuring that customers receive only the best performing equipment. Lowrance's dedication to customer satisfaction is reflected in its extensive support network. The company offers online resources such as instructional videos and manuals as well as personalized assistance through phone support centers located around the world. Aside from its impressive product line-up and commitment to quality, Lowrance also places great emphasis on environmental sustainability. The company actively participates in conservation efforts through partnerships with organizations like Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S)and Keep America Fishing initiative aimed at promoting responsible fishing practices among anglers worldwide. In conclusion, Lowrance has come a long way since Darrell J.Lowrance's first "Little Green Box" invention back in 1959. With over six decades of experience under their belt coupled with cutting-edge technology advancements along every step of their journey – they continue leading marine electronics industry by setting new standards while keeping true essence alive - making fishing easier!

Lowrance is a global manufacturer of marine electronics and GPS technology, known for its innovative products and commitment to providing high-quality fishing and boating equipment. The company has a rich history in Rexburg, Idaho, where it was founded in 1957 by Darrell Lowrance. Darrell Lowrance grew up in the small town of Lucas, Kansas, where he developed a passion for fishing from an early age. After serving in the Navy during World War II, he moved to Wichita, Kansas and began working as an engineer with Bunker Ramo Corporation. It was there that he first became interested in sonar technology. In 1955, Darrell relocated his family to Rexburg after accepting a job at Madison County Memorial Hospital as their chief engineer. He continued to pursue his love for fishing on the nearby Henry's Fork River while also tinkering with sonar equipment in his spare time. Frustrated with the lack of accurate depth finders available on the market at the time, Darrell decided to design his own using transistor technology. With help from his sons Arlen and Monte (who would later become co-founders of Lowrance Electronics), they successfully created the world's first transistorized fish finder – the Fish-Lo-K-Tor – which revolutionized recreational fishing. In 1957, Darrell officially founded Lowrance Electronics Inc., operating out of his garage in Rexburg. The Fish-Lo-K-Tor quickly gained popularity among local anglers and word spread about this groundbreaking new device across Idaho and neighboring states. As demand for their product grew rapidly over the next few years, Darrell moved operations into a larger facility near downtown Rexburg. In 1964, they introduced another industry-changing innovation –the first ever LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) digital depth sounder – which set a new standard for accuracy and reliability on watercrafts worldwide. Throughout its history in Rexburg, Lowrance has continued to innovate and expand its product line. Lowrance is a well-known name in the marine electronics industry, particularly for its production of fish finders and GPS devices. The company has been at the forefront of technological advancements in this field, making it a popular choice among fishermen and boaters alike. However, the history of Lowrance dates back to over 60 years ago when it was first established by two brothers - Darrell and Arlen Lowrance. In 1957, the Lowrance brothers founded their company with a simple goal in mind – to make fishing more enjoyable and efficient for everyone. At that time, most fishermen relied on their instincts or traditional methods to locate fish. But Darrell had an idea that would revolutionize the way people fished – using sonar technology. With limited resources but unlimited determination, they started to develop what would become one of their most iconic products – The Fish-Lo-K-Tor (FLK). This handheld device used sonar technology to detect schools of fish underwater, marking them as small blips on a screen. This revolutionary invention changed fishing forever; no longer were fishermen dependent on guesswork or luck; they could now see where exactly the fish were located. The FLK was an instant success among anglers and soon became known as "the little green box," paving the way for future innovations from Lowrance. In fact, this device laid down the foundation for modern-day fishfinders used by millions worldwide. As demand for their product grew rapidly, so did their ambitions. In 1964, Lowrance launched its first fixed-mount depth sounder called "Fish Lo-K-Tor LFP-300." It was an upgraded version of FLK with improved accuracy and user-friendly features like adjustable sensitivity and manual tuning options. Rexburg, Idaho is a small city located in Madison County in the southeastern part of the state. It has a population of approximately 28,000 people and is known for its strong sense of community and rich history. The area was initially inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Shoshone-Bannock and Nez Perce before European settlers arrived in the mid-19th century. The first recorded visit to what is now Rexburg was by explorer John C. Fremont in 1843. However, it wasn't until 1863 that permanent settlers began to arrive in the area. Among these early pioneers were Thomas E Ricks and his family who established a settlement on the banks of Teton River near present-day Rexburg. In 1883, Ricks helped establish Bannack Stake Academy which would later become Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYU-I). This institution played a significant role in shaping Rexburg's development and continues to be an integral part of its identity today. The town was officially incorporated as "Rexburg" on March 6th, 1889 after Thomas E Ricks' son-in-law Henry Flamm purchased large portions of land from local farmers with plans to develop it into a thriving community. He named it after his father-in-law's nickname "T-Rex", short for "Tyrant King". One of Rexburg's defining moments came on June 5th, 1919 when an earthquake measuring at least magnitude 6.0 struck southern Idaho causing widespread damage throughout several towns including Rexburg. Most buildings were destroyed or severely damaged with only two stone structures remaining standing - one being BYU-I's Spori Building which served as shelter for displaced residents. Despite this devastating event, residents quickly rallied together to rebuild their homes and businesses using locally sourced materials such as lava rock from nearby Hell's Half Acre Lava Field. This gave the town a unique aesthetic that can still be seen today in its architecture. The early 20th century saw Rexburg experience rapid growth and development. In 1923, it became the seat of Madison County after winning a contentious election against rival town St. Anthony. This brought new businesses and government buildings to Rexburg, solidifying its position as a regional hub. During World War II, the US Army constructed an airfield just outside of Rexburg which served as a training base for pilots participating in the war effort. The airfield was later used by BYU-I's flight program before being decommissioned in 1960 and turned into what is now known as Teton Lakes Golf Course. In addition to education and agriculture (including potato farming), tourism has played an important role in Rexburg's economy since the mid-20th century. Its proximity to popular tourist destinations such as Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and Jackson Hole have made it a convenient stopover for travelers looking for lodging and supplies. Today, Rexburg continues to thrive with its strong sense of community and dedication to preserving its history while also embracing modern developments. The city is home to many annual events including "Idaho International Dance & Music Festival" which attracts participants from all over the world every year. Rexburg's close-knit community is evident through various initiatives such as "Love Where You Live" campaign which encourages residents to take pride in their city by keeping it clean and beautiful. It also hosts several volunteering opportunities throughout the year where locals can give back to their community. In recent years, there has been significant growth within the city with new residential neighborhoods springing up around BYU-I campus along with commercial developments providing more job opportunities for residents. Rexburg may be small compared to other cities but its rich history coupled with its resilient spirit make it stand out among them all. As long as there are people who call this place home, its story will continue to be written and passed down for generations to come.

Rexburg is a small city located in Madison County, Idaho. It has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s when it was inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Shoshone and Bannock. The first European settlers arrived in the area around 1863. They were mainly Mormon pioneers who had been sent by Brigham Young to establish new settlements in the region. The town was originally called Ricksburg after Thomas E. Ricks, one of the first settlers and leader of the group that founded Rexburg. In 1883, Ricks' son Jesse N. Ricks bought land from his father and laid out a townsite which he named Rexburg. The name "Rex" comes from Latin meaning king or ruler, and "berg" means mountain or hill in German, reflecting its location near Teton Range. As more people settled in Rexburg, it grew into an important trading center for agricultural products such as wheat, barley, oats, potatoes and livestock like sheep and cattle. One significant event in Rexburg's history occurred on June 5th, 1916 when a massive earthquake struck with a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale. The quake destroyed most buildings within a five-block radius downtown including schools and churches but miraculously no lives were lost. The community quickly rallied together to rebuild their beloved town using bricks instead of wood for structures making them stronger against future earthquakes. Another notable moment in Rexburg's history took place during World War II when Japanese-American citizens were forcibly relocated to internment camps across western states including Idaho. Many Japanese-Americans living in Rexburg at this time were forced to leave their homes behind causing great disruption within their families and communities. In recent years, Rexburg has become increasingly known as home to Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYU-I), previously known as Ricks College until its transition into a four-year university in 2001. This has brought growth and diversity to the city, with students from all over the world attending classes at BYU-I. Today, Rexburg continues to thrive as a small but vibrant community with a strong sense of tradition and community values. It is home to several annual events such as the Madison County Fair, Idaho International Dance & Music Festival, and Winterfest which draw visitors from around the region. Rexburg's history is deeply intertwined with its agricultural roots and pioneer heritage while also embracing modern advancements and cultural diversity. Its story serves as a reminder of resilience in the face of adversity and how a small town can continue to evolve while still preserving its unique identity.

By providing accurate depth readings and bottom contours, Lowrance has enabled anglers to stay away from shallow areas that may harm underwater ecosystems. Moreover, Lowrance's advancements have pushed other manufacturers to keep up with their technology or risk falling behind. This competition has led to further innovation within the industry as companies strive to create better products for consumers. Future Prospects: As technology continues advancing at an exponential rate, we can expect Lowrance to continue leading the way in marine electronics. They are constantly working towards improving their existing products while also developing new ones that cater to changing consumer needs. One area that Lowrance is focusing on is connectivity between devices. In recent years they have incorporated wireless networking capabilities into some of their fishfinders and chartplotters; allowing users to access information from multiple devices simultaneously. Another aspect that Lowrance is investing in is mapping software. They offer detailed mapping systems for lakes around North America as well as coastal charts covering almost every major waterbody worldwide. With improved accuracy and more comprehensive coverage, these maps will help anglers plan their trips more efficiently than ever before. Furthermore, there has been a growing trend towards integration between different types of marine electronic equipment such as radar and autopilots with fishfinders and chartplotters. Lowrance has already started working on this by incorporating radar compatibility into some of their products, and we can expect to see more of such advancements in the future. Conclusion: In conclusion, Lowrance's commitment to innovation and providing high-quality marine electronics has made them a dominant player in the fishing industry. Their products have not only enhanced the fishing experience for anglers but also contributed to conservation efforts and pushed other manufacturers towards further advancements. With their constant pursuit of improvement, we can be sure that Lowrance will continue to revolutionize the way we fish for years to come. As technology continues evolving at an unprecedented pace, it is exciting to imagine what new developments they will bring forth in the future.
