Yamaha Marine has a rich history in Rexburg, Idaho that spans over several decades. The company has played a significant role in the development of the marine industry in this small town and continues to be a major player today. The story of Yamaha Marine’s presence in Rexburg begins back in 1960 when two brothers, Tom and Robert Murdock, opened up an automobile dealership called Madison County Motors. Located on Main Street, the dealership quickly became known for its excellent customer service and quality products. However, it wasn’t until 1976 that the Murdock brothers decided to expand their business into the marine industry by becoming a dealer for Yamaha outboard motors. At that time, there were only a few other dealerships selling outboard motors in Rexburg, but none of them had the reputation or experience that Tom and Robert had gained from running their successful car dealership. With their dedication to providing top-notch customer service and offering high-quality products, it was no surprise that Yamaha chose Madison County Motors as one of its first authorized dealerships in Idaho. As word spread about the superior performance and reliability of Yamaha outboards sold at Madison County Motors, more customers began flocking to their shop. The demand for these powerful yet fuel-efficient engines grew rapidly not just among local boat owners but also among commercial fishermen who needed reliable engines for their livelihoods. In addition to selling boats powered by Yamaha outboards, Madison County Motors also started offering repair services for these engines. Their skilled technicians received extensive training from Yamaha on how to maintain and repair their products correctly. This helped build trust with customers who knew they could rely on Madison County Motors’ expertise when it came to anything related to Yamaha marine products. By 1992, due to increasing demand for both sales and repairs of Yamaha outboards, Madison County Motors made the decision to open up a separate store dedicated solely to all things related to boating - including sales, service, and parts. This new store was named Rexburg Motorsports & Marine and became the official Yamaha dealer in the area. Over the years, Rexburg Motorsports & Marine has grown to become one of the largest marine dealerships in Idaho. The company is still owned by Tom Murdock’s family and continues to be a family-run business with a strong commitment to providing top-quality products and services to its customers. In recent years, Yamaha Marine has expanded its product line beyond outboard motors. Today, Rexburg Motorsports & Marine offers a wide range of Yamaha watercraft products such as jet boats, sport boats, center consoles, wake surfers as well as personal watercraft like WaveRunners. The success of Rexburg Motorsports & Marine can also be attributed to their involvement in local events and community outreach programs. They have sponsored various boating events on nearby lakes such as Palisades Reservoir that have helped promote safe boating practices while showcasing Yamaha’s latest models. One notable event that brings together boat enthusiasts from all over the region is “Fishing for Life,” which is co-hosted by Madison County Chamber of Commerce and held at Rigby Lake every year. It features fishing competitions for adults and children alike along with seminars on boating safety conducted by experienced professionals from Rexburg Motorsports & Marine. In addition to these efforts aimed at promoting recreational use of marine products in Idaho, both Madison County Motors and later Rexburg Motorsports & Marine have been actively engaged in environmental conservation initiatives through partnerships with organizations like Yellowstone Park Foundation. These efforts are vital for maintaining sustainable use of our natural resources so that future generations can continue enjoying them for many more years to come. Yamaha’s continued partnership with companies like Rexburg Mo

The history of Yamaha Marine dates back to 1955 when the company first introduced its first outboard motor, the P-7. Since then, Yamaha has become a leading manufacturer in the marine industry with a wide range of products and innovations that have shaped the boating world. Yamaha’s founder, Genichi Kawakami, had a passion for creating high-quality products that would enhance people's lives. This drive led him to establish Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd. (now known as Yamaha Corporation) in 1887, which initially produced pianos and reed organs. However, it was not until after World War II that Yamaha began exploring other industries. In the early 1950s, Japan was experiencing an economic boom and there was an increasing demand for recreational activities such as boating. Sensing this opportunity, Yamaha decided to enter the marine market by producing small engines for boats. In 1955, they introduced their very first outboard motor – the P-7 – which quickly gained popularity due to its reliability and affordability. As boating became more popular over time, so did Yamaha’s outboard motors. In response to growing demand and competition from other brands like Mercury and Johnson Outboards, Yamaha continued to innovate and improve their products. In 1960, they released their first four-stroke engine designed specifically for boats –the L-55N - which boasted better fuel efficiency than two-stroke engines at that time. This marked a major turning point for both Yamaha Marine and the entire industry as four-stroke technology has now become standard in modern-day outboard motors. Throughout the following decades, Yamaha continued expanding its product line with larger horsepower options such as V6 models in response to customer needs for bigger boats requiring more power. However,it wasn’t just about producing powerful outboards; it was also about creating a complete package for customers' overall boating experience. In 1984, Yamaha introduced the world’s first remote-controlled steering system for outboard motors – the Power Trim & Tilt System. This innovation allowed for easier and more precise control of the boat while also providing better handling and performance. In 1990, Yamaha released their first electronic fuel-injected (EFI) outboard motor - the Pro V150 – which offered improved fuel economy and reduced emissions compared to traditional carbureted engines. EFI technology has now become a standard feature in modern-day outboards. Another significant milestone for Yamaha was in 2007 when they launched their groundbreaking VMAX SHO series - high-performance four-stroke engines designed specifically for bass boats and other high-speed applications. The VMAX SHO proved to be a game-changer in terms of speed, power, and efficiency. Yamaha’s dedication to constantly innovate has not only been limited to its products but also extends to manufacturing processes. In 2008, they opened their state-of-the-art production facility in Kudamatsu City, Japan known as “Mother Factory.” This factory is responsible for producing all Yamaha Marine's four-stroke models sold globally today. As environmental concerns became more prevalent over time, Yamaha took on an important role in promoting sustainable boating practices through its Clean Water Initiative program launched in 2006.This initiative aims at raising awareness about clean water issues among boaters while also working towards reducing marine pollution through eco-friendly manufacturing practices. Today,Yamaha offers a wide range of marine products such as outboard motors ranging from small portable engines up to powerful V8 models capable of powering large offshore vessels. They have expanded beyond just outboards with offerings like WaveRunners (personal watercraft), jet boats, and even electric propulsion systems. In addition,Yamaha continues to push boundaries with innovations such as joystick control systems that make docking easier than ever before. Rexburg, Idaho is a small city located in eastern Idaho, nestled between the Teton and Sawtooth mountain ranges. It has a population of approximately 28,000 people and is home to Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYU-Idaho). While it may seem like just another small college town, Rexburg has a rich history that dates back to the early 19th century. The first known inhabitants of the area were Native American tribes such as the Shoshone-Bannock and Lemhi-Shoshone. They lived off the land and utilized the abundant resources of the nearby Snake River for fishing and hunting. In 1810, explorer Wilson Price Hunt led an expedition through what is now Rexburg while searching for a route to Oregon. However, it wasn't until nearly two decades later that permanent settlement began in this region. In 1832, Henry Fraeb set up a fur trading post near present-day Rexburg. This was followed by other pioneers who started homesteading in the area in search of fertile farmland. The establishment of Fort Hall also brought more settlers into this part of Idaho. One notable figure in Rexburg's history is Thomas E. Ricks who arrived with his family in 1883 at age 22 from Utah. He purchased land from Mormon apostle Wilford Woodruff and became one of the first settlers to establish roots here. He founded several schools including Madison Academy which eventually evolved into BYU-Idaho. As more families moved into Rexburg, they formed tight-knit communities centered around their shared religious beliefs as members of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints (LDS). In fact, many streets are named after prominent figures within this faith such as Joseph Smith Jr., Hyrum Smith and Brigham Young himself. In addition to farming, logging also played an important role in shaping early life in Rexburg during its formative years. It was a thriving industry that provided much-needed jobs and resources for the growing community. In 1888, the railroad arrived in Rexburg, bringing with it new opportunities for growth and development. The Oregon Short Line Railroad Company bought land from Thomas Ricks and built a depot which served as a hub for transportation of goods and passengers. By the turn of the 20th century, Rexburg had established itself as an important commercial center within eastern Idaho. This led to further economic prosperity and by 1903, it officially became incorporated as a city. However, tragedy struck on June 5th, 1912 when one of the most devastating natural disasters in Idaho's history occurred – The Teton Dam collapse. Heavy rains caused this earthen dam to fail resulting in massive flooding that destroyed homes, farms and businesses throughout Rexburg and surrounding areas. Despite this catastrophic event, the people of Rexburg persevered and rebuilt their city stronger than ever before. In fact, many consider this event to be a defining moment in shaping its character today – strong-willed individuals who are resilient in times of adversity. Over time, BYU-Idaho continued to grow becoming an integral part of life in Rexburg. Its presence has brought cultural diversity along with educational opportunities for students all over the world while also contributing significantly to economic stability within the region. Today, Rexburg continues to thrive as a vibrant community known for its friendly residents, beautiful landscapes and family-oriented atmosphere. Its rich history is still evident through historic buildings such as Madison County Courthouse (built-in 1936) or through annual events like "Rex Fest" which celebrates local heritage through music performances and food vendors. In conclusion, while small in size compared to other cities across America -the story behind how Rexburg came into existence is anything but insignificant. From Native American tribes seeking sustenance from Mother Nature's bounty thousands of years ago up until the present day, it remains a place where people come together to build their dreams and create a brighter future for generations to come.

Rexburg, Idaho is a small city located in eastern Idaho, nestled in the heart of the Upper Snake River Valley. It was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1883 and has since become an important hub for education, agriculture, and outdoor recreation. The early history of Rexburg can be traced back to its establishment as a trading post along the Teton Valley Trail. The area was inhabited by the Shoshone-Bannock tribes for centuries before being explored by European fur traders in the early 1800s. In 1832, missionary John C. Fremont passed through what is now known as Rexburg on his way to Oregon. In 1864, Brigham Young sent Mormon settlers from Utah to establish a permanent settlement at this location. They named it after Thomas Edwin Ricks, who had been called by Brigham Young to lead this group of settlers. Ricks established a fort which served as protection against potential Native American attacks and also housed many community activities such as dances and church meetings. In addition to farming and ranching activities that took place around Fort Henry (as it was initially called), residents quickly developed businesses including gristmills, sawmills, hotels and blacksmith shops to support their growing town. The completion of the railroad line connecting Salt Lake City with Montana brought increased trade opportunities for Rexburg's farmers who began exporting wheat flour throughout the region. In 1903-04 construction began on what would become one of Rexburg's most iconic landmarks - The Spori Building. Named after prominent local businessman Thomas Eddington Spori (who donated land for its construction), this grand three-story brick structure became home to both schools attending members of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) - Ricks Academy High School & Bannock Stake Academy Junior College). As more students flocked to attend these institutions so did merchants looking for commerce opportunities near campus. This led to the development of Main Street as we know it today with its charming historic buildings, many of which still house thriving local businesses. Rexburg's growth was temporarily halted in 1925 when a catastrophic earthquake destroyed much of the downtown area. However, the town quickly rallied and within two years had rebuilt itself stronger than ever before. In 1933, Ricks College (which later became BYU-Idaho) was established as part of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints' education system. Today it is one of the largest private universities in Idaho and has played a significant role in shaping Rexburg into what it is today. Today, Rexburg continues to thrive as a bustling college town with a population of around 27,000 residents. Its economy is largely driven by agriculture and education, with several major employers including Brigham Young University - Idaho, Madison School District #321, and Teton Toyota dealership. The city also boasts numerous outdoor recreational opportunities such as hiking trails, fishing spots on Henry's Fork River and Teton Dam Reservoir, skiing at nearby Grand Targhee Resort and snowmobiling through Island Park's backcountry. Overall, Rexburg's history is one that reflects determination and resilience in overcoming challenges while embracing progress and growth. It remains an important center for both education and community living in eastern Idaho.

Yamaha Marine has a rich history in Rexburg, Idaho that dates back to the early 1980s. The company's presence in this small town in eastern Idaho has had a significant impact on both the local economy and recreational boating industry. The story of Yamaha Marine's involvement in Rexburg began with the establishment of an outboard motor factory by Outboard Motor Corporation (OMC) in 1983. OMC was one of the leading manufacturers of marine engines at the time and had been producing outboards since 1936. However, due to financial difficulties, OMC decided to close its Rexburg plant after only two years of operation. This decision left many employees without jobs and created a void within the community. However, Yamaha saw potential in this location and purchased the abandoned plant from OMC for $1 million. This acquisition marked Yamaha's first step into manufacturing outside Japan. In October 1984, Yamaha officially opened its doors as "Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation" (YMMC) with only 30 employees. The company initially focused on producing small horsepower models such as 2-stroke engines ranging from 20-40 HP for its domestic market. However, it didn't take long for YMMC to expand its production capabilities and introduce new products to meet growing demand globally. Within five years of operation, YMMC became one of Yamaha's top three global outboard engine producers alongside plants located in Japan and Belgium. By employing advanced technology from Japan and utilizing skilled local labor force, YMMC quickly gained recognition for producing high-quality marine engines that were efficient and durable while meeting strict environmental standards set by government regulations. As business continued to thrive over subsequent years, several expansions took place at YMMC including increasing employee numbers up to nearly four times more than when it first started operations. These expansions also included adding state-of-the-art equipment like computerized machining centers which allowed precision manufacturing processes resulting in increased productivity. YMMC's success and reputation for quality products led to a surge in demand, not just from the U.S. but also from other countries such as Canada, Australia, and Europe. This global recognition pushed YMMC to expand its production capabilities even further by investing millions of dollars into expanding their facilities. In 1995, Yamaha introduced four-stroke engines to their product line-up which proved to be an instant hit with customers due to their superior fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. With this new technology incorporated into their outboard motors, YMMC continued to dominate the market share in North America surpassing other leading manufacturers. The year 2000 marked another milestone for YMMC as it celebrated its 15th anniversary since it first started operations in Rexburg. By that time, the plant had grown substantially with over 1 million square feet of manufacturing space on a campus covering nearly 100 acres employing more than 800 people - making it one of the largest employers within Madison County. As technological advancements continued at YMMC and recreational boating industry evolved globally; so did consumer demands for newer models with better performance features. To keep up with these changing trends while meeting strict emission standards set by government agencies like EPA and CARB (California Air Resources Board), Yamaha invested heavily into research & development resulting in continuously improving its products' power-to-weight ratio while reducing harmful emissions simultaneously. Today, after almost four decades since its establishment; Yamaha Marine has become synonymous with innovation & reliability among boat owners worldwide thanks largely imparted by employees at Rexburg who have been contributing towards building marine engines that are not only powerful but also environmentally friendly! In conclusion, there is no doubt about Yamaha Marine's contribution towards shaping Rexburg's economy positively through job creation opportunities while putting the town on the world map as a major manufacturer of high-quality marine engines used globally today! The legacy continues strong today through ongoing investments made into research & development, expanding production capacity and creating new job opportunities as Yamaha Marine strives to maintain its position as a leader in the recreational boating industry.
